Lovely Lemon Candles

Materials
  • Lemon
  • Knife
  • Spoon
  • Paper towel
  • Scissors
  • Wicks
  • 2 metal wick holders (or aluminum foil)
  • ½ lb. soy or paraffin wax flakes
  • Double boiler or bowl

  1. Cut the lemon in half lengthwise, and use the spoon to scrape out the insides, leaving only the peels. Pat the peels dry with a paper towel.
  2. Cut two wicks about 3–4 inches long each, and insert a wick into each metal wick holder. (Tip: You can use aluminum foil instead by folding a piece of foil into small, thick squares and poking a hole through the squares.) Fold over the bottom end of the wick to keep it in place. Place a wick upright in each of the lemon rinds to make sure the size is good.
  3. Heat wax flakes as directed on package. (Tip: Using a double boiler will yield the best results, but if you do not have one, you can insert a bowl on top of a pot filled with boiling water.)
  4. Spoon a small amount of wax into the lemons first, and then place wicks and holders on top of the wax to set them into place. Hold each wick until it sets, and pour the rest of the wax to fill each lemon.
  5. Leave on a flat surface to cool until wax has completely hardened. Trim excess wicks with scissors before lighting.
