A House of Haunts

Never underestimate the power that decorations have to take your party from so-so to a smashing success—especially for Halloween. Transform your house from charming to horrifying with a few simple DIYs.

Creepy-Crawly Wreath

Easy Eats

Be careful not to get wrapped up in this crazy spiderweb wreath!

Materials
  • Grapevine wreath, sized for your preference
  • Black spray paint
  • Black yarn
  • Toy spider
  • Hot glue gun/glue
  • Ribbon
  • Hook
  1. Spray paint the entire surface of the wreath, and let it dry.
  2. Using the yarn, begin to weave the web inside of the center space. String the strands from the top of the inner circle to the bottom, and continue in a crisscross pattern. In the center where the strands connect, tie and knot a strand. Weave under and over the strands in a spiral shape, and make a knot on every other strand to hold it in place.
  3. Tie another strand of yarn from the wreath, attach the spider, and glue the yarn to secure it.
  4. Make a bow with the ribbon, and glue it to the wreath.
  5. Attach the hook in its desired location, and hang.

Scary Skull Candleholders

#

There’s nothing to hold up these candles but a stack of skulls!

Materials
  • 4 terra-cotta pot saucers
  • 5 plastic decorative skulls
  • Hot glue gun/glue
  • Black spray paint
  • Thins strips of foam
  • Glitter paint
  1. Flip one of the saucers over, and glue the bottom of one skull to the top of the upside-down saucer.
  2. Glue two more skulls on top of the first one, varying the direction that they are facing.
  3. Use the glue to attach the second saucer (right side up) on top of the third skull—this will be where the candle sits.
Tip: To get the saucer to sit flat on the skull, glue a thin piece of foam to both the skull and the saucer.
  4. Using the remaining two skulls and saucers, follow steps 1–3 to create a shorter candleholder.
  5. Spray paint both holders, and let them dry. Once dry, use the glitter paint to decorate the eye sockets, and let dry.
  6. Display with your favorite candles.
