How to Wrap Smarter

written by rebecca poole

Say goodbye to commercial wrapping paper by opting to use these alternative methods! You’ll be able to add a more personal touch, save money, and help out the environment—it’s a win for everyone.

  • Brown paper
Brown paper bags make for durable wrapping—and they're recyclable! Simply cut along the sides and bottom of the bags, and use just like regular wrapping paper. Or you could also put the gifts in reusable grocery bags for a two-in-one gift.

  • Tea Towel or vintage scarf
Help the environment by using a tea towel, vintage scarf, or other fabric option to wrap your gift. In addition to making your present that much more eye-catching, the fabric is something the recipient can reuse!

  • Newspaper
Before putting the Sunday paper in the recycling bin, use it to wrap with. Page through the paper for any interesting articles, cut them out, and get to wrapping. Cater to the gift receiver’s personality by cutting out a section of the paper you know he or she will enjoy. A fashionista would appreciate a present wrapped in paper from the style section, for example.

  • Forgo wrapping altogether
Think outside the box! If you're gifting to a foodie, fill a jar with dry ingredients for a healthy winter soup. You could also place the components of a DIY craft in a basket, or, for kids, hide the gifts around the house with clues for where to find them!

Share these wrapping ideas that make a great substitute for the store-bought kind.
