Your Best Garden Ever
Small-Space Gardening Secrets
If you have a minimal amount of yard space—or no yard space at all—and are considering indoor gardening, there are a multitude of ways to reap the same benefits of an outdoor garden.
Once you’ve decided what you want to plant, it’s time to get creative and think of the best way to grow a prosperous and healthy garden that fits your space.
Do a walkthrough. Take a stroll through your space, and think about the location that might work best for your plants. What areas get the most sunlight? Where will your plants be visible to guests? Don’t just think about where you have the most free space. Consider some maneuvering of furniture, if need be, to make it work.
Go up. If you’re seriously lacking in the space department, that’s OK. A vertical garden might be the perfect solution for you and is pretty easy to accomplish. Fashion your own hanging planter with nothing more than a few pots, rope, and soil.
Grow to eat. One of the most advantageous things about an indoor garden is the ability to grow plants that would otherwise not survive in your area. Herbs like basil, mint, and parsley may be temperamental when grown outdoors, but they can thrive under proper care inside—and will leave you with a delicious way to spruce up your meals.
Try the nontraditional. Have fun with your indoor garden by swapping out the same old terra-cotta pots for fun planters. Anything from kitchen utensils to shoes can be transformed into a home for your plants with a little imagination!
