Ways to Spring Into Happiness

There are many ways to add a dose of happiness to your life. Whether you're going out and being active, smiling at the little things, cracking down on your resolutions you may have forgotten about, or simply aiming to be a better you, let the brightness of spring bring out your inner happy. Here are ways you can put a little extra pep in your step!

  • Write it down. Sometimes the daily hurdles we face can cloud the positive moments. One way to maintain a happy lifestyle is to remind yourself of all the good in your life. Keeping a gratitude journal is a way to appreciate the little things, which ultimately contribute to a happier you. Don’t forget to document those moments that make you smile—big or small—by writing them down at the end of each day. By year's end, you can look back and remember all the good that happened!

  • Pick up the phone. With how crazy life can get, losing touch with people can happen all too often. Remember to call your parents, your friends, and all the other people in your life that mean something to you. You may rekindle old friendships you thought were lost or grow closer with someone. Either way, a quick bite or a cup of coffee is sometimes all it takes to give your mood a boost!

  • Listen up. Music is known to make you happier. Take some time to compile a playlist of your favorite songs—old and new—and have a dance party. Getting ready in the morning doesn’t have to be a last-minute affair; instead, it can be the happiest part of your day with the right tunes. Share playlists with the people around you as well, and it could turn into a bonding moment.

  • Lend a hand. It’s no surprise that giving back is a happiness booster. Even if it’s paying it forward once a week or something more of a commitment like volunteering on a weekly basis, helping others is a surefire way to experience happiness. Do more good, and watch how it can have a positive effect on your life.

  • Laugh it off. Stress happens to everyone, but regardless of how stressed you get, it always helps to laugh more. Watching your favorite sitcoms and videos, listening to funny podcasts, having a weekly game night, and going out more with friends can all contribute to adding more smiles to your week. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and choose laughter instead!

  • Soak up the sun. Technology is embedded in our lives now more than ever—so much so that we often don’t realize just how much time we spend looking at screens. If you find yourself sitting down, scrolling and typing away more than necessary, set reminders to go for a walk or run, to garden, or to simply sit on your porch and read. Get more vitamin D (don’t forget the sunscreen!) and become a happier version of yourself.
