Eat Up!
Food for the Holiday Feast
Perhaps no other event brings people together more than Thanksgiving. People set aside differences, busy schedules, and miles to make sure they are with loved ones for the holiday. AAA estimated that, last year alone, over 48 million Americans would drive 50 miles or more to get to their Thanksgiving destinations. It means that much to people.
Of course, it was that meaningful from the very beginning, when the Pilgrims celebrated their first harvest with Native Americans almost four centuries ago. The feast itself has changed drastically since then, however: whereas the original celebration lasted three days, included hunting, and is thought to have featured foods like venison, waterfowl, and seafood, today’s one-day meal includes hunting for the remote and dishes like turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.
When it comes time to plan your own modern-day Thanksgiving feast or bring the feast to others, make sure to keep the flavors evolving. Use these recipes to make your meal memorable—your guests will be thankful that you did!
