Your February Travel Guide

written by alexa bricker

February might not seem like a hot month for travel. If you live where it’s cold this time of year, you’re probably looking for an escape from the ice and snow. If you live where temperatures are more moderate, you’re probably looking for a way to enjoy the outdoors before it gets too hot again come spring and summer.

The good news is February has no shortage of fun family activities from coast to coast! No matter what you’re interested in, you’re in for a treat with a visit to one of these sweet destinations.

For over seventy years, the town of Loveland, Colorado—located about forty-five miles north of Denver—has embraced the spirit of love, welcoming visitors from all over the world. Each year, Loveland celebrates the most romantic time of year with its Sweetheart Festival, which features one of the largest “love lock” sculptures in the US, interactive art displays, and plenty of sweet eats.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture opened in 2016, becoming the nineteenth institution under the umbrella of the Smithsonian. The museum is an exploration of American history, through the lens of African American experiences and culture, and a monument to perseverance, possibility, and optimism.

Lionel Hampton was one of the most prolific musicians in the history of jazz, and each February, the University of Idaho pays homage with the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival—one of the largest educational jazz events in the world. Hundreds of students, industry veterans, and music lovers come together for the ultimate celebration of one of America’s most famous musical styles.
